Specifically, the Director’s role is to: coordinate and amplify the full range of academic uses of diverse campus ecosystems, by developing and implementing faculty workshops on campus ecology and sense of place, facilitating access to resources including data, historical records and works of art, and serving as a point person for collaborations among faculty, staff, students and alumnae work with a team of facilities staff, landscape architects, and interested campus community members to lead the development and implementation of restoration and management plans for focal campus ecosystems; plans should include significant student engagement through participation in hands-on restoration work as well as ongoing monitoring create and manage a database of information on campus ecosystems and biodiversity, capturing existing knowledge, data, photos and other materials from faculty and staff (including emeriti), students and alumnae, and documenting new knowledge and perspectives to continue building the knowledge base teach an average of one course per year (possibly team-teaching across disciplines and perhaps including a summer or wintersession intensive field-based course), and hire, train, supervise, and mentor students working in the field and on the database, both in summer and during the academic year create and implement campus-wide programming to engage students with the campus landscape and biodiversity (e.g. bioblitzes, photography contests, citizen science opportunities), and assess student connections to nature at the beginning and end of their time at Wellesley, to inform program development partner with Wellesley’s College to Career Services Office to build our network of local and global organizations that share the Initiative’s goals, in order to collaborate and broaden impact, expand opportunities for students (e.g. job shadowing, internships, and post-grad work), identify guest speakers, share lessons learned, and fundraise to sustain and advance the Initiative develop and monitor metrics for overall Initiative assessment, including formative evaluation and summative reporting to Initiative leadership, that demonstrate progress, key successes and project milestones This is a full-time, 12-month position.
