Flix is a contemporary comic-strip-master in his own right, and Schöne Töchter is simply a pure delight. By anthropomorphizing Dream in the way humans long have done with Death, Gaiman is able to explore the deepest recesses of the human psyche, telling stories that really revolve more around a common theme rather than a character or plot. In fact, with Closser’s last book, Little Tommy Lost, one could imagine a more sinister artist successfully disrupting comics history.

She was “the stuff of male sexual fantasy: a push-up bustier, panties, and high-heel boots, all in white” (Lavin, 1998). Although most histories of comic art in Japan recall the traditions of visual and satirical art that developed from Japanese painting and calligraphic traditions, the primary development of comic art that concerns us in this comparative analysis took place after the Second World War.
