I do not mean the systematic scheme of thought which scholars have doubtfully extracted from his writings. Confronted with a counterexample to the traditional analysis of knowledge, philosophers realized that they had been wrong about the nature of knowledge; this inspired them to new analyses. Witness Rorty, Brandom’s self-styled ‘analytic pragmatism’, and perhaps, meta­philosophical naturalism (q.v. section 2.e). (Still: only rarely – as in Graham and Horgan 1994, who advocate what they call ‘Post-Analytic Metaphilosophy’ – do naturalists call themselves ‘post-Analytic’.) Some post-Analytic philosophers go further, in that they tend, often under the influence of Wittgenstein, to attempt less to solve and more to dissolve or even discard philosophical problems.
